Are you getting the most out of your beauty sleep?

While you sleep, amazing things are happening. There is evidence that skin cells regenerate faster at night than during the day. Cell division happens throughout the day, but peaks somewhere around 2 am. This is literally renewal and rejuvenation during sleep. The peak in cell division happens even if you stay awake at night, while the surge in growth hormone doesn't. So what I’m saying is, while you sleep, your skin repairs itself (thanks to help from your hormones and your other body functions). But you can help this process by prepping your skin before you go to bed with a few simple nighttime skin treatments.

1. Wash Your Face

Do not jump into that comfy bed without washing the days grime, pollution, makeup, sweat, and surface oils off your face. You’ll age 7 days for every night you go to sleep with your makeup on. You don’t want that. So, get out your wash and pamper your skin. Pay special attention to make sure you allow your cleanser to do its job. Take your time. Wash for at least a minute using just your fingers. If you wash your face only once a day, make sure you do it at night. If you wear makeup, consider using a gentle eye makeup remover to cleanse the sensitive skin around your eyes.

2. Apply Your Topicals – Fight Wrinkles

Perfect time to use your Night serum or Revelage serum. If your dermatologist has prescribed topical medications to be used on a nightly basis, apply them as directed. Retinoids, peptides, glycolic acid, and vitamin C will work while you sleep to repair your skin. They put wrinkles at bay, helps your complexion appear brighter, smoother texture, and assists your own collagen production for a more youthful appearance. A good product can improve your looks within just a couple of days. Look for products that contain hyaluronic acid and botanical antioxidants.

3. Use a Night Creme – Moisturize

These creams are almost as essential to our skincare as the moisturizers we apply during the day. With the beating that our skin takes during the day, it is important to give it a little extra attention. You deserve it… You may want to apply your night crème ½ hour before you go to bed to avoid wasting it on your pillowcase. If you have normal or dry skin, go for a heavier moisturizer. If your skin is oily or you have combination skin, look or a night cream with hyaluronic acid, which will help your skin retain moisture without clogging your pores.

4. Use an Eye Cream

Eye creams are specially designed to moisturize the sensitive skin around your eyes. This area does not produce any oil. So it is one of the first areas on your face that begin to show signs of aging. Even if you don’t have any wrinkles yet, it can still be a good idea to protect that area so that you can prevent future damage. Apply the eye crème gently using your ring finger and avoid tugging the skin.

5. Get Your Beauty Sleep

They don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing — getting eight hours of sleep each night can do wonders for your looks. That’s because your brain continues to produce hormones while you’re at rest, and these hormones work all night to help repair skin cells, tissue, muscles, and bones. In fact, some research suggests that lack of sleep or sleep disturbances can have a negative effect on your skin, triggering all sorts of problems. So, do yourself a favor, sleep!!! If you can’t sleep, drink a cup of warm milk or a cup of chamomile tea. If that doesn’t help, call your doctor!

I hope this helps you with what you are currently doing and know that you are on your way to healthy looking skin. If you need help and suggestions on what skin care products to use, send me a message and I’d be more than happy to recommend.

Sweet dreams
