How's your skin feeling?

How's your skin feeling this winter? is it dry? ever thought about using a hydrating mask? Did you know that men have dry skin too and that masks are not just for women.  I just want to put that out there for my male readers. You know who you are :-).

Water alone won't help you.

I love to share reviews and I found this one on Arbonne's Intense Hydration Mask. I love the mask myself tis time of year and use it 2x a week. If you have tried it, share your results with me. If you'd like to try it, let me know too.  :-)

Get Inspired

Hello 2011...... I love the start of a new year! its our chance to start over, make changes, keep what worked and trash what didn’t. Finish what we started the year before.  The possibilities are endless!!!

By now we should have thought about making new years resolutions. Some of us might have doubts about whether or not we can achieve what we so desire and then some of us are so totally confident. Some of us might have already broken some of our new years resolutions.

What ever your resolution is, this message is here to remind you and me that we always have a choice and we can choose to be the directors of our lives or we can choose to be actors and be directed by life. Most of us here have more potential than we give ourselves credit for.

For a moment, visualize with me how you’d like your life to be on December 31st 2011.

To help you keep this visual alive, create a dreamboard on how you want your life to look at the end of the year. Now visualize what you want to achieve, who you want to be and the resources you will need to achieve your dream goal. Create a collage of pictures, words or drawings to represent it. Get a clear picture in your mind of what you want and when you want it by in your life. Then put your dreamboard somewhere where you will see it every day - on your bathroom wall, fridge or by your desk.
In study at Yale University in 1947, 3% who set goals achieved more, and accumulated more wealth than the other 97% who didn't set goals-combined!

Now the magic happens when you share this dreamboard you have created with all those around you. Tell all your friends and family what you are going to do!!!. Put all your doubts and fears behind you. Don’t ask yourself. What if I fail? The question you need to be asking is, what if I succeed? What if I make it? I challenge you to start the new year with the end in mind.
On my dreamboard I put "I love living life, I am Happy!!"
They say great things come to those who plan for the future and believe in themselves.
What will your dreamboard look like?

Are you getting the most out of your beauty sleep?

While you sleep, amazing things are happening. There is evidence that skin cells regenerate faster at night than during the day. Cell division happens throughout the day, but peaks somewhere around 2 am. This is literally renewal and rejuvenation during sleep. The peak in cell division happens even if you stay awake at night, while the surge in growth hormone doesn't. So what I’m saying is, while you sleep, your skin repairs itself (thanks to help from your hormones and your other body functions). But you can help this process by prepping your skin before you go to bed with a few simple nighttime skin treatments.

1. Wash Your Face

Do not jump into that comfy bed without washing the days grime, pollution, makeup, sweat, and surface oils off your face. You’ll age 7 days for every night you go to sleep with your makeup on. You don’t want that. So, get out your wash and pamper your skin. Pay special attention to make sure you allow your cleanser to do its job. Take your time. Wash for at least a minute using just your fingers. If you wash your face only once a day, make sure you do it at night. If you wear makeup, consider using a gentle eye makeup remover to cleanse the sensitive skin around your eyes.

2. Apply Your Topicals – Fight Wrinkles

Perfect time to use your Night serum or Revelage serum. If your dermatologist has prescribed topical medications to be used on a nightly basis, apply them as directed. Retinoids, peptides, glycolic acid, and vitamin C will work while you sleep to repair your skin. They put wrinkles at bay, helps your complexion appear brighter, smoother texture, and assists your own collagen production for a more youthful appearance. A good product can improve your looks within just a couple of days. Look for products that contain hyaluronic acid and botanical antioxidants.

3. Use a Night Creme – Moisturize

These creams are almost as essential to our skincare as the moisturizers we apply during the day. With the beating that our skin takes during the day, it is important to give it a little extra attention. You deserve it… You may want to apply your night crème ½ hour before you go to bed to avoid wasting it on your pillowcase. If you have normal or dry skin, go for a heavier moisturizer. If your skin is oily or you have combination skin, look or a night cream with hyaluronic acid, which will help your skin retain moisture without clogging your pores.

4. Use an Eye Cream

Eye creams are specially designed to moisturize the sensitive skin around your eyes. This area does not produce any oil. So it is one of the first areas on your face that begin to show signs of aging. Even if you don’t have any wrinkles yet, it can still be a good idea to protect that area so that you can prevent future damage. Apply the eye crème gently using your ring finger and avoid tugging the skin.

5. Get Your Beauty Sleep

They don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing — getting eight hours of sleep each night can do wonders for your looks. That’s because your brain continues to produce hormones while you’re at rest, and these hormones work all night to help repair skin cells, tissue, muscles, and bones. In fact, some research suggests that lack of sleep or sleep disturbances can have a negative effect on your skin, triggering all sorts of problems. So, do yourself a favor, sleep!!! If you can’t sleep, drink a cup of warm milk or a cup of chamomile tea. If that doesn’t help, call your doctor!

I hope this helps you with what you are currently doing and know that you are on your way to healthy looking skin. If you need help and suggestions on what skin care products to use, send me a message and I’d be more than happy to recommend.

Sweet dreams

Happy early 4th

It's Saturday afternoon and I am doing my daily routine of getting caught up on business and writing emails before we head out for a family vacation by the lake.

As I sit here, I do my very best to be grateful for all I have, for my kids, for all of you and everything in life. I still want you to know that obstacles and challenges will always pop up no matter what level of success you achieve. And more and more in my life I realize that success is truly about your perception of situations. Challenges don't stop coming at you, you just get better at how you process and deal with them.

A great quote by Winston Churchill, "the definition of success is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm" could not be more in line with reality.

When I was young and saw someone successful or "rich" I tended to think they found an easier path, were born under a lucky star or were handed the keys to easy street. I now realize that 99.9% of the time that is not the case. Huge obstacles, monster challenges, getting through failures, personal problems, struggles and so much more was all part of the ingredients to their success. No one is immune to struggle, worry, disappointment, feeling at times it could never work for you, being scared and all the feelings you may feel at one point in your life. Maybe all the time.

So back to the subject line and wishing you a early happy 4th of July. Why this note now? Well, first of all, it is a wonderful holiday and I am proud to be an American and I truly believe with all the garbage and tough times we are experiencing, we still live in the greatest country in the world.  But this message was constructed because as I sit here I realize that the 4th is just about the half way point of the year. And with that I am not sure where you are half way through 2010.

You may be celebrating success at this half way point of 2010. On the other hand, you could be dealing with a pile of crap in your life- from personal, to business, finances. I want the second group to listen up right here, right now. Life can be tough, I have had and still deal with my fair share. But more than me, so many, if not most of my countless list of successful Arbonne friends have been where you are, felt the way you feel. But they found the strength, realized they were the only ones who could do it for them and their family and pushed on.  The results were amazing for them. And no matter what you are thinking right now, those results can be amazing for you.

Over this holiday weekend do your best to focus on a bigger better future for yourself. The heck with doing your best, just do it. Trick yourself by imagining it is all going to work out as you hope. Let yourself dream and pretend it is not a dream, rather your reality that is just a hop, skip and a jump away.

Spend time at http://www.arbonne.com/ and check out this video. Imagine life on your own terms... https://www.arbonne.com/opportunity.asp  - it has been life changing for so many, so why not YOU and why not start RIGHT NOW?!  Let's get together soon and see if this is a fit for you...

I wish you a wonderful 4th of July and new mindset and new found success in the second half of this year.

Sincerely,
Joann McLemore

When it comes to your skin, everyday is sun day.... no matter what the weather.  Solar rays can do damage year-round, so make sure you focus on preventing harm to your skin with BefoRE Sun.

Use Sunscreen to Help Protect Against Extrinsic Aging

Sun exposure is the number one contributor to extrinsic aging, which leads to premature development of wrinkles, sagging skin and skin discolorations. The American Academy of Dermatology recognizes sunscreens as the most effective cosmeceuticals on the market used to combat the signs of aging.

Facts:
  • Less than 20% of Americans wear sunscreen year-round.
  • Skin cancers occur three times more commonly than breast and lung cancers combined.

  • The American Academy of Dermatology recommends wearing an SPF of 15 or higher for maximum protection. SPF is available in levels from 2 to 60. Does highest mean the best protection? Not necessarily. An SPF of 50 only provides 1% to 2% more protection than an SPF 30.

What makes men's skin different from women's skin?

Ever wonder what makes men's skin different from women's skin?  well look no further.  Men’s skin is oilier and more acidic. Their skin is denser and thicker, but steadily becomes thinner with age. Men’s skin is also firmer due to higher levels of collagen, but with aging, collagen levels decrease dramatically. Once the process of aging starts, the skin rapidly loses its firmness and tone, and deep wrinkles start to form.

So for all the Men out there looking to take care of their skin now! here are some recommendations.
http://www.arbonne.com/RE9AdvancedMens/  This set is simple to use with just four products for face.  your skin will love you for it.  A $130 value for only $117:  item #643

One other recommendation is the The Collagen Supplement - Benefit from excellent sources of vitamins A, C, E, D and zinc that nourish the skin.  Vegetarian capsules/30 day supply # 817;  $48

Have a great weekend and as always, If you think you may be able to benefit from the services that we offer, or simply have more questions, please call or email me for additional information.

Why Omega-3 Plus??
•Our body cannot produce alpha linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid. We must introduce it to our body via diet. Most of the population does not consume enough, so we must supplement!

•ARBONNE’S FORMULATION IS VEGAN

•Omega- 3 Plus adheres to Arbonne’s philosophy of not using animal products or by-products. Arbonne’s formula does not contain fish oils, which contain heavy metals like mercury.

•Can be used in conjunction with Arbonne’s Figure 8 Healthy Living products and Nutritional Hybrids.

•It is for everyone! Yes, adults, teenagers and children 3 years and older can take Omega-3 Plus.

Omega-3 Plus has many unique aspects that sets Arbonne apart from other products in the market place:

1. Omega-3 Plus is derived from a standardized flaxseed oil. Our source provides 70% alpha linolenic acid (ALA) compared to the 40 - 45% in other products. It is an ultra pure source that is concentrated and each vegetarian capsule provides 500 mg of ALA. The recommended dosage is two capsules for 1,000 mg!

2. Another unique feature of Arbonne's Omega-3 Plus is that it is derived from fruit, grain and plant oils such as flaxseed, chia, perilla, black raspberry, kiwi, pomegranate and pumpkins. These seed oils are naturally rich in the essential fatty acid; alpha linolenic acid (an omega 3 fatty acid) as well as other nutrients and antioxidants.

3. Arbonne also utilizes LiCaps technology which provides a vegan way to contain oils in avegetarian capsule. Most products in the market contain oils in a gelatin soft gel which is derived from animals (another Arbonne plus.)

Features:
•Certified Vegan
•No fish aftertaste
•Natural healthy sources of omega-3
•Delivers 1000 mg of omega-3 fatty acids in one serving

Benefits:
•Promotes optimal health and wellness
•Supports a healthy cardiovascular system
•Promotes concentration and mental acuity
•Supports joint health

Why are these fatty acids called ESSENTIAL?
•Alpha linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid, is a type of unsaturated fat that the body cannot produce on its own. The only way to introduce it to the body is through diet. But, unfortunately, much of the population does not consume enough omega-3 fatty acids with their diet.

Why did Arbonne use flaxseed oil versus borage, primrose or fish oil?
•Flaxseed is naturally one of the richest source of alpha linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid. Flaxseed is a plant source of essential fatty acids, which adheres to Arbonne’s philosophy of not using animal products or by-products.

How much salmon would I have to eat to get the same amount of omega-3 fatty acids?
•You would have to eat at least 4 ounces of salmon every day!

Can I take this product with the Figure 8 and other Arbonne products?
•Absolutely. All of the Arbonne nutrition products are formulated to be taken together. This is a great addition to your current supplement regimen.

The Truth About Calcium and Osteoporosis

The Truth About Calcium and Osteoporosis

By John Robbins, author of 'Diet for a New America'

This is great information.  I hope
25% of sixty-five year old women in the United States are diagnosed with osteoporosis. For a person technically to qualify for this label, it means she has lost 50- 75% of the original bone material from her skeleton. That is 1 out of every 4 women of sixty-five years old has lost over half her bone density! Today, more deaths are caused by osteoporosis than cancer of the breast and cervix combined.

Unfortunately, the loss of calcium and other minerals from the bones is a gradual process which goes on steadily for a long time before it becomes evident. There is no flashing red light to warn us that our bodies are losing calcium. And it is usually not apparent until loose teeth, receding gums, or a fractured hip show how brittle and chalky the bones have become. The end result of the skeletal structure’s gradual erosion is calcium-deficient bones that may break with the slightest provocation. Even a mere sneeze may crack a rib.

One of the reasons the decreasing bone density is hard to detect until it reaches such as unfortunate stage, is that even in extreme cases of osteoporosis, the calcium level of the blood is usually normal. In the body’s ranking of needs, the blood level of calcium takes definite priority over the bone level of calcium. The body needs calcium for vital operations, such as controlling muscular contractions, blood clotting, transmission of nerve impulses and other utterly essential tasks. When the body needs to supply calcium to the blood for any reason, it acts as if the bones were a ‘bank’ of stored calcium, and through a series of biochemical reactions a ‘check’ is drawn on the calcium bank. Your body draws calcium from your bones to supply calcium to your blood.

I used to believe that bones lost calcium only if there was not enough calcium in our diets. The National Dairy Council is the foremost spokesman for this point of view, and the solution they propose, not all that surprisingly, is for us all to drink more milk and eat more dairy products. In fact, the dairy industry has of late spent a great deal of money promoting this point of view; and it does seem logical. But modern nutritional research clearly indicates a major flaw in this perspective. Osteoporosis is, in fact, a disease caused by a number of things, the most important of which is excess dietary animal protein!

The correspondence between excess animal protein intake and bone resorption is direct and consistent. Even with very high calcium intakes, the more excess animal protein in the diet the greater the incidence of negative calcium balance, and the greater the loss of calcium from the bones.

One long-term study found that with as little as 75 grams of daily protein (less than three-quarters of what the average meat-eating American consumes) more calcium is lost in the urine than is absorbed by the body from the diet - resulting in a negative calcium balance. This is true even if the dietary calcium intake is as high as 1400 milligrams per day, far higher than the standard American diet.

Summarising the medical research on osteoporosis, one of the nation’s leading medical authorities on dietary associations with disease, Dr. John McDougall, says:

“I would like to emphasize that the calcium-losing effect of protein on the human body is not an area of controversy in scientific circles. The many studies performed during the past 55 years consistently show that the most important dietary change that we can make if we want to create a positive calcium balance that will keep our bones solid is to decrease the amount of proteins we eat each day. The important change is not to increase the amount of calcium we take in.”

Osteoporosis Around the World

Throughout the world, the incidence of osteoporosis correlates directly with animal protein intake. The greater the intake of protein, the more common and more severe will be the osteoporosis. In fact, world health statistics show that osteoporosis is most common in exactly those countries where dairy products are consumed in the largest quantities - the United States, Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

Nathan Pritikin studied the medical research on osteoporosis, and found no basis at all for the Dairy Council viewpoint:

African Bantu women take in only 350 mg. of calcium per day. They bear nine children during their lifetime and breast feed them for two years. They never have calcium deficiency, seldom break a bone, rarely lose a tooth... How can they do that on 350 mg. of calcium a day when the (National Dairy Council) recommendation is 1200 mg.? It’s very simple. They’re on a low-protein diet that does not kick the calcium out of the body’.

At the other end of the scale from the Bantus are the native Eskimos.

If osteoporosis were a calcium deficiency disease it would be unheard of among these people. They have the highest dietary calcium intake of any people in the world - more than 2000 mg. a day from fish bones. Their diet is also the very highest in the world in protein - 250 to 400 grams a day. The native Eskimo people have one of the very highest rates of osteoporosis in the world.

In March, 1983, the Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported the results of the largest study of this kind ever undertaken. Researchers in Michigan State and other major universities found that, by the age of 65 in the United States:

• Male vegetarians had an average measurable bone loss of 3%

• Male meat-eaters had an average measurable bone loss of 7%

• Female vegetarians had an average measurable bone loss of 18%

• Female meat-eaters had an average measurable bone loss of 35%

Keeping our PH- levels in check

Keeping our blood at an essentially neutral pH is top priority for our body. If our blood were to become too acidic we would die. Accordingly, if the diet contains a lot of acid forming foods (meat, dairy, sugar and processed carbohydrates), then the body, in its wisdom, withdraws calcium from the bones and uses this alkaline mineral to balance the pH of the blood. Meat, eggs and fish are the most acid-forming of the foods, and hence the ones that cause calcium to be drawn from the bones to restore the pH balance. Most fruits and vegetables, on the other hand, generally yield an alkaline ash, and so require no depletion of calcium stores from the bones to maintain the neutrality of the blood.

In spite of its high calcium content, milk, due to its high protein content, and high acidity, appears actually to contribute to the accelerating development of osteoporosis. The occurrence of this disease in the United States has reached truly epidemic proportions, and the promotion of dairy products as an ‘answer’ to the suffering of millions seems, not only self-serving, but absolutely immoral and downright dishonest.
